The BTZ for the domestic market
The Technical Approval for Construction Products (BTZ) serves as proof that a construction product meets the technical requirements in Austria and can be used safely. It enables manufacturers to legally market products in the domestic market that are not covered by harmonized European standards (hEN) or European Technical Assessments (ETAs), or that deviate from a harmonized standard or from the national set of rules listed in the ÖA building materials list.
In addition, a BTZ may be defined as mandatory in the Baustoffliste ÖA.
However, a BTZ can also be applied for voluntarily—for example, because a manufacturer expects it to lead to greater market acceptance or wishes to protect itself legally. Voluntary BTZs, however, do not entitle the manufacturer to display the ÜA installation mark.
The technical approval for construction products is governed by Article 21 of the “Agreement pursuant to Article 15a of the Federal Constitutional Law (B-VG) on Cooperation in the Construction Sector and the Placing on the Market and Use of Construction Products” or in the corresponding state-level implementing regulations and applies in all Austrian federal states.

Mandatory BTZ

It serves as the basis for registration certificates and the mandatory ÜA marking of construction products for which no harmonized European standards exist and which are listed in the ÖA building materials list.
BTZ as
profile of proofe
For products listed in the ÖA Building Materials List that deviate significantly from the published set of rules (standards, guidelines for use, OIB Guidelines).
Voluntary
BTZ
For products that are not listed in the Baustoffliste ÖA and are therefore not subject to mandatory ÜA marking.
The voluntary BTZ therefore does not entitle the holder to affix the ÜA conformity mark.
