We regularly bring OIB team members in front of the curtain to introduce them to you.
Who are the people who work at OIB? What do they do? Which buildings fascinate you?
They answer these and other questions in short interviews.

My name:
Christian Kerschbaum
What is my area of responsibility at OIB?
I work in OIB Unit 2 (Building Physics). My area of responsibility mainly includes European Technical Assessments (ETA) and Technical Building Approvals (BTZ) for all facade systems (various ETICS, SSGS, VHF,…) as well as all building waterproofing (flat roof, perimeter waterproofing).
I am also involved in several EOTA working groups for the preparation of European Assessment Documents (EAD), such as the working group for external thermal insulation composite systems or bonded glass façades. At national level, I am a member of several standardization committees.
Another area includes supporting manufacturers’ associations with questions relating to building material lists. Within the OIB I am also deputy chairman of the works council
What project am I particularly involved in at the moment?
In the area of ETAs, the focus this year is on converting ETAs on an ETAG basis into ETAs on an EAD basis.
In the area of standards, the focus is on the publication of the revised parts of ÖNORM B 6400 (ETICS installation) and ÖNORM B 6000 (thermal insulation products).
If I had to describe OIB in three words, they would be …
Competent, solution-oriented, collegial
What do many people not know about my work?
How wide-ranging my area of responsibility as a one-man show actually is and what “windmills” we often have to/are allowed to “fight” at European level.
Which word or abbreviation in everyday OIB life regularly makes my head spin?
Construction Products Ordinance (CPO) new
Which office item is guaranteed to always be within reach?
Laptop, telephone
After a hard day’s work, the best way to recharge my batteries is to…
Relaxing with my family in the garden, by the sea or in the mountains, at one of the many cultural events or actively skiing, mountain biking or somewhere in/near the water.
This building or technical detail particularly fascinates me – and why?
The Pantheon in Rome … an altogether ingenious construction that has survived for over 1.5 millennia.
